ANAN HOLDS VIRTUAL AGM: HIGHLIGHTS ACHIEVEMENTS

The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) held its 38th Annual General Meeting through a virtual platform with a determination to establish a University of Accountancy and a Polytechnic of Accountancy that would be a new innovation and strengthen the capacity building in Accountancy profession.

President of the Association, Prof. Muhammad Akaro Mainoma, mni, FCNA disclosed this on Saturday while giving accounts of his stewardship for the past one year as the President of the Association.

According to him, the decision to cancel the earlier scheduled date and opted to hold the online AGM was predicated on the COVID 19 pandemic outbreak and the need to curb its spread through social gathering.

Mainoma said that the Association had recorded tremendous growth in the area of the set objectives.

One of the achievements is advancing the profession by broadening the scope of Accounting education through the commencement of getting accreditation for establishing the University and Polytechnic of Accountancy.

``In the area of development, the Association is in the process of completing a 2,500-seater ultra-modern auditorium to provide conducive learning environment at the Nigerian College of Accountancy, its training arm in Jos.

``Within the same period, the Association has reconstructed its collapsed college fence and refurbished and upgraded the College clinic to meet the required standards,’’ he said.

According to the President, other achievements include the acquisition of a four-storey building situated at plot 559, Mabushi District, off Ahmadu bello Way, Abuja, FCT for the Association’s corporate headquarters as part of efforts to reposition the Association in the comity of Professional Accounting Organizations (POAs).

Meanwhile, the Association during the AGM also ratified the election into council of four new members at the virtual online AGM.

The new council members are: Alhaji Ibrahim Husaini Gidado, Alhaji Dankura Kabir Muhammad, Chief Peter Anyanwu and Dr Olaoye Sunday Adewale.
